About the HELIX SDMI25 Smart Digital MOST Interface — MOST25 to Optical S/PDIF

From the manufacturer

The HELIX SDMI25 is Audiotec Fischer’s Smart Digital MOST Interface: it is installed in place of the factory optical amplifier in a vehicle’s MOST25 fiber-optic ring, automatically locates the music signal inside the MOST25 data stream, and outputs it as an optical S/PDIF signal at 48 kHz / 24 bit. An aftermarket DSP or DSP amplifier with an optical input then receives the factory source without a single digital-to-analog conversion in between.

Where a MOST25 component is protected by a serial number, the SDMI25 reads and copies that number from the unit it replaces and logs itself onto the MOST bus automatically. Vehicle selection is set with three physical jumpers — no software required — and a BMW-specific jumper position lets you balance warning and parking-sensor gongs against the music using the head unit’s own bass and treble controls.

Stereo output only: multi-channel surround formats such as Dolby or DTS are not supported. MOST25 only — not MOST150. See the fitment note on this listing for which BMW X5 (E70) factory audio system this applies to. This part has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

    Recommended with a caveat

Does exactly what the listing says — bridges the Top-HiFi (677) MOST ring to optical S/PDIF for the aftermarket DSP amp. Jumper setup is simple once you find the BMW-specific position in the manual. Only reason for four stars: it's discontinued, so I'd order a spare if you're picky about long-term support.

    Does the job

Confirmed this is for the digital Top-HiFi (677) system, not the analog HiFi (676) — worth double-checking your option code before buying, since the aftermarket community sometimes calls both 'Harman Kardon' which isn't accurate for either. Once matched to the right car it worked as documented, stereo output only.

Match the numbers to your setup

The specs above are the fastest way to confirm a part is right before checkout — a size or power rating just outside your factory setup usually means an adapter or a different SKU, not a return later. If you are not sure which spec matters for your vehicle, the fit tool at the top of the page narrows the catalog to parts already confirmed for your year, make, and model.
